The Leica M500 is an ophthalmic surgical microscope, and uses a different illumination technology than other microscopes. it is the only Leica ophthalmic microscope that uses a fiber optic light guide. The M500 is the lightest, easiest microscope system to move in the industry and has a wide range of motion to maximize performance in the operating room.
The design comes with a 300watt dual Xenon arc lamp. Unlike most with the new fiberoptic light source, the light quality is increased by 20%, which improves readability and clarity. The System comes with a backup light and electrical system, so the surgeon will no be disturbed while doing a procedure if the light fails.
